Privacy policy

Last updated 17 September 2026. This page describes Trainora 1.0 for iPhone and its Apple Watch companion. It is written to match what the code does, and it is revised whenever the code changes.

The short version

Trainora collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-up, no server operated by me, no analytics, and no third-party SDK of any kind receiving anything. Most privacy questions about this app have no answer to give, because the data never leaves your device.

What is read from Apple Health

With your permission, and only with it, the app reads these five categories and nothing else:

No sleep data. No body measurements. No VO₂ max. No workout routes and no location data of any kind.

It reads. It never writes. The permission to write to Apple Health is one Trainora does not ask for, and the app's own permission text says exactly that: Trainora never writes to Apple Health. It only reads what other apps have already saved there, and this permission is one it does not ask for.

Health access is requested in context rather than at launch, and the app is genuinely usable if you refuse it: sessions can be entered by hand, imported from .tcx and .gpx files, or restored from a Trainora archive.

Where that data goes

Onto your device, and no further. It is not transmitted to me — there is no service of mine that could receive it — and not to any third party. It does not appear in a log, a diagnostic report or a crash report, because the app writes no logs at all: there is no logging framework in the shipping source and the build fails if one is introduced. There is no custom crash-reporting SDK.

iCloud sync

If you are signed into iCloud, Trainora can keep your training in step across your own devices using Apple's CloudKit private database — your personal iCloud account, under Apple's transport and at-rest encryption, governed by Apple's privacy policy. I have no access to it and no ability to read it. If you are not signed in, the app says so on the profile screen and everything stays local to the device.

Trainora declares two iCloud containers. One is mirrored into by the system's own SwiftData mirroring and holds your training. The second exists for coach sharing, which does not ship in version 1.0 — with the feature withheld, nothing is written to it.

Health data belongs to Health

The samples Trainora reads live in Apple Health, not in Trainora. Removing them, or revoking Trainora's access to them, is done in the Health app and in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health, at any time, without reference to me.

Deleting and exporting

One action in the app deletes everything Trainora holds, locally and in your iCloud private database. It cannot be undone. It states exactly what it removes — every session, plan, threshold, goal, note and coach link — and it states what it cannot: Your Apple Health data stays in Health. Trainora only ever read it — deleting here does not delete anything Health holds.

A separate action exports everything as one JSON file you can read or take elsewhere. Neither requires a support request, a waiting period, or contacting me at all.

Deleting the app removes its local store with it. If iCloud sync was on and you want the iCloud copy gone too, delete from inside the app first.

Your rights, if you are in the EU or UK

The processing that exists is local to your device and initiated by you. The right to erasure is satisfied by the in-app deletion, with no ticket and no delay. The right to portability is satisfied by the export, in an open format. There is no profiling for advertising, no sale of data and no sharing of data, because none of it reaches me in the first place.

Children

Trainora is not directed at children, and collects no data from anybody, including children.

Not a medical device

Trainora is a training tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing it displays is medical advice or a diagnosis. See limitations and terms.

If this ever changes

If a future version collects or transmits anything at all, this page will say so plainly and the change will be described in the release notes before it takes effect. Questions about any of it: write to me.

Next: terms of use.

Also in this notebook: the front page, the model, a week worked through, what the watch does, where this is weakest, questions, the changelog and support.
